In other Countries, roads are not being reconstructed in every administration. This is because there is an effective system and bodies that are saddled with the responsibility of maintaining their roads.
But in Nigeria, reconstruction of the same road every 2/3 years or by every new government is what is obtainable.
So many bad roads in Rivers State today, started with a pothole that was neglected which later turned to a gully and extended to other parts of the road, thereby making the road unmotorable.
This is because there was no system put in place to handle that or that the system was not functioning or probably dead, which past administrations never looked into.
Roads are to be maintained for a long period of time to allow for the development of new roads and the state in general. Money put into reconstructing our roads, if channeled to other areas will help in developing the state further.
It is in this respect that we want to thank the Executive Governor of Rivers State, an administrator and a man who knows about governance Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for reviving the Rivers State Roads Maintenance and Rehabilitation Agency (RSRMRA) with the charge to maintain & rehabilitate our roads.
We also commend the management of the revived Agency led by Chief Okey Okah for the tremendous job they are doing.
We wish to also use this medium to advice that the roads being rehabilitated last long as to avoid coming back to the same spot done.
Lastly, we thank the Governor of Rivers State in general on the way he has been piloting the affairs of the state, as we are indeed seeing positive change. As we also ask that the Agency should not die within a short period.
It is obvious that a NEW Rivers State is on cause and at the end we shall have a Newest Rivers State.
