RSG TO DESIGNATE CENTRES FOR TERMINAL ILL PERSONS
In line with its vision of providing quality healthcare service to the people of the State, Rivers State Government says it plans to provide designated facilities for terminally ill persons in the State.
The State Deputy Governor stated this while speaking at a one day Stakeholder’s seminar organized for terminally ill persons by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), in collaboration with the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent De Paul and the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt, at the Ministry of Justice Complex Port Harcourt.
Represented by her Special Assistant on Research and Social Media, Miss. Uki Asemota, Dr. Banigo said the proposed centres would stop the increase of terminally ill persons being paraded in the streets of Port Harcourt.
She noted that the State Government through its collaboration with International Organizations has been able to achieve sharp decrease in some preventable diseases in the State, adding that Government was putting necessary step to complete all abandoned Hospitals and Health Centre in the State
The Deputy Governor further reiterated Government commitments towards providing affordable, accessible and quality health care for all Rivers people, while commending the efforts of the National Orientation Agency, Daughter of Charity of Saint Vincent De Paul and the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt for supporting governments’ effort in bringing succor to the less privileged ones in the society.
Earlier in his opening address, the State Director of National Orientation Agency Mr. Oliver Wolugbom said the programme was aimed at checking the increasing cases of terminally ill persons who are paraded in the streets by their Care-Givers thereby exposing them to health hazards, exploitation and all other forms of dehumanization.
