WEEK OF SOLIDARITY WITH PEOPLE OF NON SELF GOVERNING TERRITORIES: 25TH - 31ST MAY, 2016.
The United Nations General Assembly by its resolution in December, 2005 requested a week of solidarity with the peoples of non-self-governing territories to be celebrated annually on every last week of May (25th - 31st). This is aimed at ensuring their political, social, educational advancements and protection against all forms of abuse.
Non self governing territories are those territories whose people have not yet attained full measure of self government due to administering powers. Countries that exercise administering powers on non-self-governing territories are urged to take effective measures of safe guarding and guarantying inalienable rights of such people.
The essence of this week's observance is geared towards campaigning on total eradication of colonialism, racism and violations of human rights which is a clog to the wheels of development and protection of human rights and dignity. Today, more than 2million people still live under colonial rules in about 16 non-self-governing territories. Some of such territories are the Cayman Island, Bermuda, Guam, Falklands etc.
In solidarity with the peoples of non-self-governing territories, we can lend our voices by emphatically stating that people still living under colonial rule deserve better lives. They are entitled to freely enjoy their territories political status, fundamental tenets of democracy, freedom of human dignity and human rights!
God bless and keep you and your families.

Hon Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike,
