Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty, King Dandeson Jaja, Jeki V, Amanyanabo
of Opobo as the Father of the Day at a summit organized by National Association of Seadogs, Port Harcourt chapter. Held at the Conference
Hall of the Rivers State Ministry of Justice Secretariat Complex, Port
Harcourt.
With the Theme:-
“DRIVING SECURITY TO THE GRASSROOTS
FOR PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE”
The Eze in his speech thanked the
organizers of the summit for coming up with this kind of programme, as it will
go a long way in tackling the issue of insecurity in the society. He also
informed the audience that the paramount rulers had a meeting with the governor
of the state Chief Barr. N. E. Wike yesterday at their quarterly meeting and
the issue of insecurity was one of the topics discussed.
The paramount ruler also pointed out that the frequent changing of security personnel in the state is also not helping the state in terms of security. He then used the opportunity to appeal to the Federal Government to allow the security personnel, especially the Commissioner of Police to stay long in office as to function effectively to achieve results.
While speaking with Newest Riverst Reporters, Eze Wali Ejike advised that the Police should provide protection and some kind of incentives for those that are willing to give out available information to aid them in their operations. Which he said is a vital means of curbing insecurity.
He also advised his fellow paramount rulers to stop crowning chieftaincy titles wrongly and to people of questionable characters.
Many contributors at the event complained that the traditional institutions play a very vital role in fighting insecurity and advised that the Government should strengthen the institution. They also advised that royal fathers should stop being partisan.
Speakers at the summit were from the: Nigerian Police, Army, Immigration, NDLEA, Customs, NGOs, and CLOs.
And the Senior Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor; Hon. Oraye St. Franklyn and the Chief Security Officer of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology who also represented the Vice Chancellor also made their contributions.
