Exactly on this day one year behind, on Monday, the 1st of June 2015, my dear and loving husband, His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON commenced his tenure with his first day in office as Governor after he was sworn into office on the 29th of May, 2015.
In retrospect, I realize that it could only have been the enduring love and faithfulness of the Almighty God that brought us all this far. Taking stock of all that he has achieved by the special grace of God (which I do not intend to reel out in their numbers as I know that much of that is within your bosom), it is easy to see that this was all within the grand plan of our merciful Father.
It's also apparent to me that all these could not have been possible without the prayers of everyone in Rivers State and even beyond. I note that even people who didn't know our Governor personally, but heard of and understood the issues at the time, both within and outside Rivers State, were genuinely happy and excited for us.
One year down the line and at the close of his first year in office, we have much to thank God for. Personally, I feel sad that projects such as good roads, street lights, pipe borne water, availability of funds for small/medium enterprises (SME), construction of medium income housing, enhancement of agricultural initiatives and even the intervention in the educational sector by ensuring that some faculties in the RSUST and Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic were upgraded to ensure that they met their acrreditation requirements to avoid closure amongst others, are being celebrated with such enthusiasm as has been experienced these past few days as these really are the basics that Goverment should ordinarily provide for its citizens. This goes to show the neglect in these sectors previously as before now, some of these were readily available in Rivers State.
I take cognisance of the fact that the population of Rivers State is constantly on the increase and this has put pressure on the basic amenities provided for in the past thus we may not have been prepared for the explosion in the population in the past years. But I note that the lack of earning power by members of the Civil Service and also pensioners who were not paid for many months, closure of both the judicial and legislative arms of Goverment are not factors to encourage peace, civil behaviors and separation of powers in Government.
Today, all these have been reversed and we celebrate the reinstatement of all the democratic institutions in our dear Rivers State.
Our Governor has been able to achieve all this even with our very meager resources and dwindling revenues of about 75% less than we have had in the past and going forward, with what we have experienced so far, we expect even more from Goverment.
It is in this regard that I thank you for and request for your continuing and sustained prayers for Rivers State and our dear Governor, so that we achieve peaceful coexistence amongst each other, love and consideration for one another in order to ensure progress in our State. Without these, our hope for sustained development will be a mirage.
Please don't relent in your prayers as they are needed now more than ever, as this second year commences. I thank you and pray for The Lord's blessings in your lives, always.
May God keep you and all that is yours, amen.
From Her Excellency,
Hon. Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike,
The Wife of His Excellency,
Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON,
The Governor of Rivers State.
